A
Change of School:
All concerned with your child
should give careful thought to transfer between schools and particularly
at phase transfers. Advanced planning is essential. Detailed guidance
on phase transfers is set out in chapter five of the Code of Practice.
Secondary
School Transfer:
Transfer from Primary to Secondary
School is one of the most important changes your child will have to make. If your
child has special educational needs it is important that your should attend
the Secondary Open Evenings. Do take your child with you. It is also useful
to ask for a personal appointment at a later date, after the Open Evening,
where you can discuss you child in more detail. The SENCO at the Secondary
School is the most appropriate person to approach.
'Transfer to Secondary School'
booklet - Croydon Education:
Early in July, towards the
end of your child's Year 5, you should receive, from your child's school
a booklet from the LEA called 'Transfer to Secondary School (with the
relevant dates). There are also copies available at the 'One Stop' Reception
at Taberner House and in Croydon Library.
Secondary
School Open Evenings:
The LEA booklet lists all
Croydon Secondary Schools, plus a timetable of their Open Evenings/Days.
It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to attend a selected
number of these Open Evenings, with your child, in order to gauge and
compare different schools. The Open Evenings usually take place in the
second and third weeks of the Autumn term. You need to visit the year
before secondary transfer, i.e. when your child is starting Year 6. You
also have the right to visit schools outside Croydon.
